So close. Sky Tavern almost got to open on time, but because of Winter Storm Harper lingering on, the start of lessons will be delayed until 1/26-27. Yes, I know it will be a blue sunshine weekend if the Sierras stay true to form, but after all this snow we will need to dig out and regroup. The road will be a mess or not, but it will have every Mt. Rose pass holder trying to get first chair and be a parking lot is my experience. Makes a bad place for buses full of first time skiers and boarders. We really need opening day to be a great time for everyone and it is shaping up to be a good season.
The weekend plan. Subject to change, except no kid's lessons is the way it will be.
I will still be up Saturday morning early. We need Ski Patrol to do it's stuff. Race Team does drills and then digs. Maybe dig first. Anyone else that wants to help find Sky Tavern in the snowdrift please show up, 8 feet of snow out the back door. This is your place and zero staff. We will be having to look at all the lifts and see if there are any issues. When we get these storms the fuses tend to blow on the power poles which means a call to NV Energy. There is also still a large amount of tasks to finish in the lodge. All those things we were going to take care of this week were put on the back burner by needing to move snow, watch it snow and repeat.
No lessons for kids this weekend and this place belongs to you members. HELP!
If all goes well on Saturday and the weather is good, maybe a repeat of last weekend on Sunday. Support adults come up and figure out what you are doing, while others get taught to be amazing instructors. If we find the buses with the rental gear in them, might even be able to set some folks up. We can start at 9 and I will send out a confirmation email about Sunday after the Operations meeting Saturday.
Badges up to a registration date of January 2 are finished and can be picked up at the front desk this weekend. The rest can be picked up opening day.
Just a little about gear.
Sky Tavern cannot set up rental gear opening weekend. There is just too much going on and the gear has been put back in storage. Plan ahead please! Sky Tavern teaches skiing with ski poles starting at age 6. If you rented gear at Bobos and they didn't include poles, you need to get some from them.
And when did they start naming Sierra storms?
Harper, really? Go ahead and click.
Showing my age.
See you all soon,
Bill
