First a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

It has taken years, years of dreaming, years of planning, years of fundraising and years of a group coming together to pull something off for the community. Today was a big day, another step taken. Washoe County approved Sky Tavern's plans for what we need to do.

• Special Use Permit Case Number WSUP23-0016 (Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program Expansion) Approved 4-1.

The BIg Points

More snowmaking construction, Water storage, Parking improvements, and Lights for the slopes!

Snowmaking and lights change the way Sky Tavern operates, (yes, snowmaking is underway). This will let Sky do more for more kids. Jr Ski is still Jr Ski, always will be. It's the other programs that have been sitting only as a folder in my computer that can happen. My heart rate has finally gone down from the anxiety of today, the fireworks to follow.

A very special thanks goes to Nathan Robison and crew, Sky Tavern Board and Staff members. This has been an uphill battle for a downhill sport. It came down to an agreement by all that the Truckee Meadows is a skiing community. We need to focus on that, and keep it going that way to get more kids on the snow, even at night. This is going to change a great deal for the area. Get ready for an ask for help.

The Schedule  

April 6/7 Week 7. Back to classes! Looks like winter will go on hold for the weekend! It is here right now.

This is the weekend our level 1 PSIA/AASI candidates get tested. Nerves will be working overtime but they got this! Wishing you all good luck.

If kids want to pass a Level, this is the time to get it done. Go to class, do good, find a Certified Instructor in the orange coat for help.

April 13/14

This will be the last weekend of the 2024 season. Game and race days. Fun stuff. Tears to follow.

April 20^th Take the mountain apart and put it away until 2025. Ski Patrol’s task. Most of this is rope lines, tower pads, and other hill safety gear. Stuff we hope we never use.

The ski lifts start being taken apart to be upgraded the following week.

Sky Tavern Rental Gear Return May 7-10th. Details to follow.

2024 and 2025 RACE TEAM NEWS

1. Race Team Try-outs will begin at 10:30 on both Saturday (April 6) and Sunday (April 7). Announcements will be made each day about where the race course will be located.

2. Race Team pictures will take place on Saturday, April 6, at 12:30 on the Sky Tavern deck. Race team members should wear their “Race Team Jackets” and bring their “Race Team Number Bibs” to the deck for the picture as well!

3. Race Team jackets and number bibs will be collected immediately following the team picture on the deck, so bring another jacket because racers will no longer have their team jackets after the picture!

Purple to Red!

Sky Tavern graduated four more Ski Patrollers from candidate purple coats to full Red Coats during ceremonies during Bring A Friend Day on the deck, in the snow.

Pictured are Pam, Steve, Janell, and Talya along with one of their trainers Darla in the middle, below. Not pictured is Kylie who graduated earlier in the year. All of them have amazing stories of how they got to this point here at Sky. Ask them.

Congratulations!

Eric Ruud, Snowsports Director, and I have birthdays one day apart, he is the old guy, and we have been doing silly stuff for, hard to say, decades together. Saturday was Eric's birthday, and Sunday was mine. There were lots of birthday wishes, backslaps, cards and cake on Saturday.

From both of us, thank you. I am always saying that I don't have any friends that are not part of Sky Tavern. Saturday proved I really don't need any others. You guys are the best!
