February 9 2024, Friday Morning GO!

It is Week 1. Of course, there are issues. There are always issues Week 1. As of this morning, we are still trying to get the parking lot cleared. The loader died this week and we are still missing a part. Greg G, the GM, and Dominic, the parking dude, from Mt.Rose, just stopped by. They are going to come rescue us. It's good to have neighbors. And the BBQ froze up and cracked last night. Colin is on it. LOL.

Week 1 is always confusing. Trying to get kids suited up and into class, find a place to help, what is for lunch, who took my skis? All part of the growing pains. Don't worry. It has been like this for 76 years. The cyclical cycles of things working verse not calm down as time goes on. Everyone "gets it" pretty fast. The emails on Monday will say that this is the most unorganized place ever. Not really, but your task is to fix it. You will, no worries always happens.

We know that kids are going to crash in the back seat at noon. Sound asleep with mouths wide open after their first day on snow. SUVs will be in a line out of the parking lot. Parents need to be parenting. That leaves a few holes in cleaning up in the afternoon so help, please if your kid is still skiing at 3.

Make that meeting place for you and the kids. We never lose kids, just parents.

The weather guy is saying clear and cold. Real Sierra Wintertime.

Get here early. Parking is always slow the first week. Second entrance only and follow the lead of your neighbors that run the lot. Park tight and tighter.

Classes get lined up at 8:30. The flag-raising is the start of the season. I use SkyKids help to raise Old Glory. Usually takes three of them to outweigh the flag.

Buses load up at 7 am and back up at 2:30 to return.

That football game starts at 3. Sunday people come up Sunday. You will make the Game. And if you stop me I can tell you the story about how I gave away the free week-long trip to SuperBowl XXXVIII. Yes, that Superbowl.

Enough from me. Saturday folks. Get here and make this happen to start this off at 100% for 2024. Sky Tavern is an example of Newton's first law about inertia. Sky Tavern some years is hard to get started, harder to stop. All about you making it happen. GO!

1. Week 1 Hints. Here. There are lots of moving parts. Just a list of hints such as get there early.

One more time about passes. If you do not have your pass there will be the "Moms" with the box and temporary tickets if need be on the deck. There are still families that have not sent in pictures so passes are on hold. Email info@skytavern.com for help.

Passes. Everyone needs passes. Yep, saying it again. Everyone.

We are checking passes on everyone. To get on the lift you must have a pass. It is amazing how many try to get on that are not registered or try to use last year’s. Being registered means you belong here. If you don’t have a pass, you should be asked by every member why you don’t. We deal with the most precious thing in the world, kids. We want them safe. That is every member’s responsibility. We need to know that everyone is a member. That everyone is registered and belongs. We all get to know each other this way too.

We are also teaching kids something other than snowsports. They need to be responsible and follow the policies in place. Also, that no one is entitled. The caste system of position in life died a long time ago in the West. A good number of the Freestyle Team were herded all at once by the Risk Manager during practice. All their passes were safe at home. Off to the front desk with the lot of them looking like ducklings following Tom.

If you do not have a pass, please go to the front desk. They can issue temp tickets if your pass is still at home or in the mail or guest passes if say you are the grandparent who had to substitute for a sick parent. We want to keep it a pretty tightly run ship here. Adults, be an example and wear your pass. Question those who do not and especially those who do not look like they belong. They are most likely harmless, lost tourists. Explain what Sky Tavern is. Be nice but send them up to Rose for day tickets. Some will join next year. Happens all the time.
