From around the 10th of December, we got a little snow but we made a lot of snow. Lars was up all night, every night messing with settings and pressures and covering the base area with snow that Mike groomed into something. It was enough to get high school race teams out on Saturday for a few hours.
Then it rained, snowed, slushed, and rained again. Wasn't so pretty by Tuesday morning. All that falling mush turned to real snow and now the place is white again. Still not enough to get anything but one carpet lift open, but getting there. In the pictures you can see the top and the back part of Sky is fairly skiable. Someone will hike through the willows and ski it soon.
If we work backward and add in all the training to get ready, it looks like this, best case. This is a flat guess and depends on the weather.
Opening Week 1 of the Jr Ski Program
January 20,21
Dryland Weekend ( First time on snow kids plus new member training. This is when job assignments happen, more about this later)
January 13,14
All instructors training on snow.
January 6,7
Other groups will be on the hill during these weekends that are not scheduled yet, such as SkyKids, Race and Freestyle teams, and high school teams. Things will change depending on when the storms hit and with how much a wallop.
I have been here a long time and seen the good and bad with snow. While everyone wants last season where we had 50 inches before Christmas, what is going on now is pretty normal.
Best quote ever from Douglas Adams: "Don't Panic!" Storms are on the way and we are not going anywhere. When snow happens, we ski until it is gone in April or later.
