| Friday, March 3, 2023   Closed again for the weekend. I really don't know what to say so I am going to let the pros do it. Sorry.   (Second apology at end of this email)       Tahoe Daily Snow   By Bryan Allegretto, Forecaster   March 3, 2023 8:36am PST   Rough to Impossible Travel Saturday - Sunday...   A break in the storms for Friday. The next snowstorm moves in early Saturday morning and lasts into early next week, with heavy snow possible by Saturday afternoon into Sunday.    National Weather Service Watches, Warnings & Advisories   Winter Storm Warning   ...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM SATURDAY TO 4 AM PST MONDAY...   * TRAVEL HAZARDS...Extreme travel disruptions possible. If you  come to the Sierra this weekend, you may not be able to leave  for a while. If you become stuck in your vehicle, rescue may be  significantly delayed.   * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2  feet, except 2 to 4 feet above 7000 feet. Winds could gust as  high as 50 mph, with up to 100 mph along the Sierra crest.   Avoid travel if possible, you could be stuck in your vehicle for many hours. If you must travel, prepare for long delays and carry an emergency kit with extra food, water, and clothing. If you stay home, have a backup plan in case of power outages.   Just to clarify, Sky Tavern is above 7000 ft, four more feet of snow, and I always worry about school buses and minivans on the Mt Rose Hwy during storms. The enemy will be wind and the roads. Sky is a little more protected than Mt.Rose, like 10 mph worth. If they are at 50+ we are still turning off the lifts. Since they will be at 100, do the math. Well, that is not pretty. In 20 years of this, I have never seen the words "impossible travel" before. Pretty sure I don't want my grandkids out in this.   The silly small staff of Sky Tavern, plus a handful of superstar volunteers, logged hundreds of man-hours this week to get Sky Tavern back to 90% of open. Never did find Webster or Rocco carpet lifts.   It has been a wild west week, from whiteout conditions to some of the strangest equipment failures ever. I was driving the loader when the front tire deflated in a big hurry. I thought I fell into the creek as it tried to fall over. Way too old for that kind of surprise. Repaired. Another was a chunk of ice going all the way through a snowcat windshield onto the passenger floorboard. Not repaired. Snowcat drive belts snapping, and the handles on snowblowers folding up like ready-to-serve pasta. In 2017 we had more feet, but only half as heavy. This is just too much snow taking a toll on the place. Please, stop wearing pajamas inside out.   So I am going to put this out and I am serious. Since the Jr Ski Program will be running all spring to make up for these lost weekends, and you will be skiing in flowered shirts ,get me some garage bands. We are going to make a party and a bunch of memories when high-pressure moves in. Send in the demos to the office.   Still shoveling, Bill           |
