Closed for Saturday, Feb 25th

We will make a call on Saturday about Sunday but not looking likely. I have been making this call for almost 20 years now and never take it lightly to close, but the safety and enjoyment of the kids come first! This is no place for youngins with the roads, snow, and winds.

The chart from OPEN SNOW

Sky Tavern is 7300 to 8200 ft and so far Bryan forecasted a little low.

A couple of feet of snow has fallen during this storm so far with more on its way, like four more feet by Wednesday. This is silly. There is no way to keep up with the parking lot or to teach in these conditions. We have a company picnic going on, and if Patrol is not digging out their stuck kids, they are out there double-ejecting. Conditions that stories are created from, scary stories.

The road is a mess. I would more than lose sleep with school buses out there. In fact, it is so bad one of our own crashed in a big way on Thursday. Two totaled trucks, one brand new, road closed for two hours, Our guy is beat up and the other driver is fine, thankfully. Lesson learned, slippery out there, gang. Sometimes tires follow the ruts that are formed by chained-up minivans. And new trucks have lots of airbags that work.

I am going to hear from those super skiers and rider instructors. "But there's powder out there". There will still be lots next weekend and even the weekend after that. How it works around here. Someone cable Punxsutawney Phil and tell him he was right this year. Not just six more weeks of winter but six more weeks of WINTER! Digging out starts again in the morning around 9. Bring enthusiasm and a shovel. I'll make coffee.
