*Scroll all the way down and read all information please*

Check the front page of the website for GO/NO GO.
Watch the weather, please.

Opening weekend - smiles, blue sky, more snow and incredible teamwork.

A Friendly Ask:

If you are a Saturday member please stick to Saturday. If you are a Sunday member please stick to Sunday. At least for the first few weeks. It is going to be a long season with lots and lots of time on the slopes.

A Note on Parking:

Opening weekend at Sky Tavern is typically very busy and our parking lot is limited. We continue to encourage our members to leave the house early and carpool with others to decrease the number of vehicles coming to, and parking at, Sky Tavern. We also offer a regular bus program for youth ages 9+. Both of these options are offered and create space savings measures.

For any members, we will be offering open ski afternoons on some select Fridays, the first being this Friday, February 3rd from 1-4PM. The next afternoon free ski will be Friday, March 3rd 1-4PM. Others may happen. Sky Ridge chair and Webster carpet lift will run.

Ride the Bus?

If you cannot carpool we will have a bus at Galena High School this Saturday only:
60 spots - first come basis - all age families welcome to ride. Meet at the northwest side of the parking lot.
The buses will be there at approximately 7:20am after they load up at Reed and Wooster. You can shuttle back down to your car in our airport shuttle bus if you need to get out earlier than 2:30 or 3. Just check in with the front desk for the shuttle back times. No, we have never tried this before but working hard to make everyone happy.

Special thanks to the parking lot team. On opening weekend, Drew and the crew parked more cars than the lot has ever had. We were sorry to turn cars away and we are working to make more room. This week we widen the lot and Bums Gulch to add more cars. We are plowing out an additional lot east of Top of the Mountain Sports.
With the above implementations, we hope traffic and the parking lot capacity will improve.
Sky Tavern had more members last season and never turned anyone away. Saturday was a combination of weather, an opening day being pushed back, football, snow, and bigger cars. FYI. Northstar backed up Interstate 80, so we did slightly better than them.

VOLUNTEER SIGN UP SHEET

This is where you fall if instructing is just not right for you even after you tried. The real power here is the Moms of Sky Tavern not unlike the rest of the world. They have put together a list of jobs and tasks. There are lots more and most of you returning parents have a pretty good idea where you fit in. There are Dads that have been in the kitchen for years and Moms that have run Class Organizers equally as long. Go there even if the list is full. We need experience this season. Yes, you can move around. Talk to the front desk Mom.

All of these positions are vital and nothing is written in granite except for this. Everyone helps. If you hide in your car or in the lodge on your computer, you will be called out to help. Stuff goes on all day. Helping Sarah clean the kitchen in the afternoon is just as important and needed as checking lift tickets at 9. There is no such thing as someone else's problem and please treat all the kids as your own.

Full descriptions are on the sign up sheet! If you have any questions after reviewing email us at info@skytavern.com

Have fun. Make it fun. If it's not fun, try again.

Women’s Ski and Board Clinics are back!

two hours. All levels of experience are welcome; first time skiers and boarders to advanced

Safety Rules

Helmets are required on al Skiers and Riders out on the snow.

1. Evacuation from job location

Know where the exits in the lodge are. The meeting place is in the parking lot if evacuation is necessary. Ski Patrol will direct.

2. How to report unsafe conditions using SPARS and SCARS forms.

All forms to report any unsafe conditions before an accident or after are located in the Safety Manuals which are in Ski Patrol or at the front desk. If you see an unsafe condition please report it to the Risk Manager, Tom Raw (tom.raw@skytavern.com), Ski Patrol, Mountain Management or your department head. You can also use howcanwehelp@skytavern.com. Sometimes there are members that do this for a living and see something that no one else ever saw before. Please speak up!

3. SDS: Location and Use

Mostly for kitchen people, the sheets are in the kitchen

4. Locations and use of First Aid Stations

Ski Patrol. They are the best in the west, use them! Located on the first floor behind the cross in the other building.

5. Proper Lifting/Moving Handling Techniques

What we pick up are kids. Ski boots make poor platforms to work in so get some help with kids, especially on icy patches. Use hand trucks or get help with heavy loads.

6. Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment

Kitchen people use gloves and aprons when working. Outside people, please dress for work outside. No tennis shoes to run lift lines.

7. Being aware of machinery

Please stay out of lift motor areas. Rotating machines and loose clothing make a bad combination. Please stay away from snowmobiles and groomers when they are operating. Obey all closures when a helicopter is present. This is an emergency and all energy and focus need to be on the patient. Please talk with your kids about this.

8. Common Sense. Please watch where you walk. Ice is slippery. Salt is located inside the front door if need be.

Some departments have other safety measures in place such as the kitchen. Talk to the department head.

Be safe, Have Fun
