Hints learned from years past

  1. This palce is all about working together to make fun. Rule #1.
  2. Get here on time
  3. Bus kids ride the bus.
  4. Park tight and carpool. No F350s with one person in it PLEASE!
  5. The parents with the ? vests can fix anything. Use them. The front desk has answers but is swamped.
  6. No helicopter parenting during lessons. Let instructors instruct. The base area is crowded enough.
  7. Everyone helps, everyone. You do this for the kids.
  8. MAKE A MEETING PLACE WITH YOUR KIDS. In 75 years we have never lost a kid. We lose lots of parents.
  9. Mom is a ski instructor and really busy so clean up yourself.
  10. We need to work this place all day long including cleaning up after lunch.
  11. If a kid is struggling, find a Certified Instructor in the sort of red coats. They can fix skiing and riding problems. They are magicians and do all this for the kids!
  12. To get Ski Patrol for an injury. You can call the front desk at 775 323 5125 and they will relay or the bottom of every lift has an operator that is in direct contact with Ski Patrol. Sky Tavern's Ski Patrol is the best in the west.

January 27, 2023

It is time to get this going.

Week 1 GO

The weather looks like it is going to be fine to start the whole 2023 season. If snowmageddon shows back up for some reason, we will email, and change the front page of the website, and Facebook to No-GO. That is not going to happen this weekend. Fingers crossed! Might get a refresher on a little snow. No big deal.

With 26 feet of snow falling in such a short time, the staff up here has been busy and some stuff has not gotten finished. Videos, signs, posters, meetings, yea it will all get together as we all work together. Opening weekend is always confusing but it always works out!

One other heads-up is one of our surface lifts has decided that being buried under snow means time to quit. The manufacturer is working on it. We are working on it. We have 24 hours to go.

Parking is going to tight and the deck is still 25% under the snow. Finding it is a job that needs to be filled now. The big bubble, ask a last year member, is under the snow. It is not going up for a while, if at all this season. Thoughts?

We have plowed and shoveled, but the lot is still slippery. No crashing please.

I need to get back to making Sky ready for tomorrow and Sunday. There will be issues but we will work through them together. This place is yours and the program is what you make of it. You create Sky Tavern. I am the guy dumping the trash. I can stop and talk.

Let's go.

Safety Rules

Helmets are required on al Skiers and Riders out on the snow.

1. Evacuation from job location

Know where the exits in the lodge are. The meeting place is in the parking lot if evacuation is necessary. Ski Patrol will direct.

2. How to report unsafe conditions using SPARS and SCARS forms.

All forms to report any unsafe conditions before an accident or after are located in the Safety Manuals which are in Ski Patrol or at the front desk. If you see an unsafe condition please report it to the Risk Manager, Tom Raw (tom.raw@skytavern.com), Ski Patrol, Mountain Management or your department head. You can also use howcanwehelp@skytavern.com. Sometimes there are members that do this for a living and see something that no one else ever saw before. Please speak up!

3. SDS: Location and Use

Mostly for kitchen people, the sheets are in the kitchen

4. Locations and use of First Aid Stations

Ski Patrol. They are the best in the west, use them! Located on the first floor behind the cross in the other building.

5. Proper Lifting/Moving Handling Techniques

What we pick up are kids. Ski boots make poor platforms to work in so get some help with kids, especially on icy patches. Use hand trucks or get help with heavy loads.

6. Proper use of Personal Protective Equipment

Kitchen people use gloves and aprons when working. Outside people, please dress for work outside. No tennis shoes to run lift lines.

7. Being aware of machinery

Please stay out of lift motor areas. Rotating machines and loose clothing make a bad combination. Please stay away from snowmobiles and groomers when they are operating. Obey all closures when a helicopter is present. This is an emergency and all energy and focus need to be on the patient. Please talk with your kids about this.

8. Common Sense. Please watch where you walk. Ice is slippery. Salt is located inside the front door if need be.

Some departments have other safety measures in place such as the kitchen. Talk to the department head.

Be safe, Have Fun
