We are good to GO
for Week 4 February 5/6

This has been a hard email to write. There is so much good news and so much sadness. Stick with me this weekend. There are a lot of stories to tell. And as I write this we just got a $10,000 donation to snowmaking. Bright spots in the day and dark.
Bill

We are off and going again. Week 4 is coming up.

Punxsutawney Phil is saying we are getting six more weeks of winter yet it seems to be an everyone but us deal. I am starting to feel we are the ones stuck in Ground Hog Day! Blue skies, no wind, cold start with gradual warming. Yes, I am complaining. Where is the new snow? Someone is NOT flushing ice cubes.

The snow is firm. Staying where Jim and Corban are grooming is the way to go. Get up and have some fun. Pass a class! Get scanned first!

Fridays

We tried an experiment to train some adaptive instructors and some other groups on Fridays. Some homeschool groups were coming. Didn't work out as I wanted. There are a few groups, some of our Race Team, an advanced ski class for adults, Reno Rec & Ski Club, and some showing off of the area. There is a huge amount of space on the slopes.

We are open from 9 until at least a bit after lunch. No food service but drinks. Come up and "train" with instructors. Not an organized class like during the weekend, but have some fun. You need your badge, please.

Our goal is still to have more and more instructors and ones that can work mid-week for other school programs. We are a long way from having enough instructors for that. If you as a member have the time, come up. Don't pull the kids out of school, please. Trying to keep this as adults learning or doing something.

Support Members

There are lots of support members, 600 plus. There are lots of support members doing great work. There are also some that are not. Every year this comes up. People say we should scan them, fine them, flog them. I don't think so. There are some things that need doing. Lifts are still light for help. Since kids are moving from carpets to the chairlifts, help Sky Ridge in the afternoon, please. The bubble needs some patching and some figuring out. Someone make it their own. We need an award podium built. I have plywood. Clean-up has been better at the end of the day especially on Sunday. THANK YOU!

Find something, fix it, clean it or direct it. Why we are here and why Mt.Rose is $200 a day and we are not. ( And I am realistic enough to know everyone skipped this section. LOL)

The Winter Olympics are a big deal around here. Salt Lake City 2002 is what I am here. In years past Sky Tavern has had former members participate like Tamara Mckinney who sits on our Board. She is the only Board Member with a Wikipedia Page. Pretty cool read!

David Wise is one of our own. There is so much history about him, his family, and Sky Tavern we could use it as a bedtime story. Watch the former SkyKid during the Opening Ceremonies and kick everyone else in the halfpipe. Get the schedule by clicking the picture above. Get tickets to our fundraiser watch party by clicking below.

As a parent, a grandparent, and someone that will do anything for kids, I have been kicking the can down the street all day about how to write the saddest news regarding one of our Sky Tavern kids. I have tried and tried and tried.

I decided I don't have the skill set, the tone, or even the words to do it. I am going to leave it up to our partners at Forever 14.

This is a huge Sky Tavern family. A dozen or so members. You know at least one. We are all family here.
My condolences and tears.
