February 23rd
Still lacking to open, but so close
I know, from town it looks amazing. A few inches here and a few inches there all add up to being closer and closer. Sunday is to bring another 5-7 inches and next week more. We are so close and trying like mad. Marty has been out all week with a saw cutting anything in the base area growing over three inches high. We pushed all the snow out of the parking lot to the base and then spread it out with the snowcat. We are trying to build something for kids out of what is here. 5 inches just wasn't enough for this week.
If it was 60 and sunny I would give up, but it is winter at Sky Tavern, cold, windy and snowing. Don't lose faith in winter yet, please. We are trying. It has been a long week of efforts and it looks like next week is going to be doubly so.
Thursday 2 pm. It was snowing like winter meant it.
Wednesday - Friday, next week
This has been in the works for years as a effort between Sky Tavern' Adaptive Department, Mt.Rose, the City of Reno, Veterans Affairs and even the City of Las Vegas, so it will be happening. Vets from as far away as Texas and some locals are coming to this, about twenty right now. We could use some help. We are looking for a couple of snowboard instructors and some skiers that are willing to help load bi-ski users onto the lifts. Some additional ski instructors would be great. Most of these Vets have not skied at all or not since a life changing event. Greg Park will train anyone willing to commit Saturday morning at 10am at Sky Tavern. Just going to set up a chairlift chair in the mud and teach how to load an adaptive skier. All we got right now.
This group gave, we need to do a good job for them.
Contact Greg at adaptivesports@skytavern.com or show Saturday at Sky Tavern, 10am.

My chest still hurts from what went on with David losing a ski on two runs. Then he did what we all knew he could do, sent it dead perfect to get the Gold!
Congratulations to the whole family!
Words don't do justice to how proud we are!
