This two to three feet may not last past this weekend, but there is winter on the horizon. It is time to start lighting the ski program up. First, a little bragging about Sky Tavern. I do that a lot. You should too.

If you don't know, Sky Tavern won the National Ski Areas Association's Conversion Cup in 2021. That simply means that the skiing industry says Sky Tavern is the best in the country at creating new skiers and snowboarders. The best. Not the huge multi-location condo hosting mega areas, us, Sky Tavern. It has never happened before that the industry awarded a nonprofit, volunteer staffed ski area their biggest award and it might never happen again since there are no repeats. If you have been part of this in the last 70 years this was all about your efforts. If this is your first season, welcome to the winning team.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It snowed fairly heavy for two days. That followed the heavest rain I have ever seen here in 20 years. The pond was almost dry two weeks ago and overflowed Sunday night. Winter is coming and it is time to get some updates out there.

The calendar can always be found at https://www.skytavern.org/Sky-Tavern-Calendar.html. We do our best to keep it up to date. Download the Sky Tavern app to your phone.

10th, 7PM All instructors 1st orientation night. California Building.
If you have signed up as an instructor or maybe want to give it a try, this is the first night of "how we do it".

Ski Swap 17th -21st as a Sky Tavern produced event. Sales are Friday night and Saturday only.

17th all day and continuing until Sunday. Ski Swap Set up at the building that is the Spirt Store by Sams Club. Ski Swap is the biggest event we produce each year. It is more a ski sale than swap but you can sell your old equipment or find great deals on new or used gear. We have to clean and turn an empty building into a ski store in a day. A little more info can be found here. https://www.skytavern.org/Sky-Tavern-Ski-Swap.html-Tavern-Calendar.html

We open for sales Friday at 5 and go until 9 pm and then do it again for Saturday. By 4 pm it is pretty much over and we take the next two days to clean up.

There will be other things going on at the Ski Swap building while we have it for that week. Race Team is planning their oritation night on Saturday and Freestyle will have one as well TBA.

Registration and Rentals

Sky Tavern Gear Rental Program * must be a registerd 2022 member

This is a sport that takes a lot of stuff. That stuff can be expensive. Sky Tavern's job is to take as many barriers away so you can have a great time and learn a sport. We have a program to rent you skis, poles, boots or snowboards. This is not the newest zippiest gear. Most has had a former life at another resort and been donated to us to get you started. It is great for that task. All of it is in good shape, been tested and tuned for the start of the season. If you want cooler, faster, brighter skis or boards see our friends at Bobos. If you are in you first couple of years of this sport, come see us.

We own somewhere around 1700 pairs of skis in most sizes, including very , very little ones, and no idea how many snowboards. You rent them on the website and then shortly an email will come back to you for an appointment to size you. It takes a bit of time to get a family right, so a bit of patience is needed. Also please remember those Moms and Dads are volunteering. We will start this in early November. We are still getting everything together and there is one more wedding this weekend in the way of set-up. It is my son's so my own fault!

HELMETS are required on everyone skiing or riding at Sky Tavern. We do not rent those since we really don't know where they have been or how they were treated. There will be new ones for sale at Ski Swap.

Badges have started being sent out but by the end of October Lythia was 1200 badges behind. There is usually 400 members by this time of year not 1400.

New member orientations will starting in December and go until we open. Watch the emails. There is a huge amount that is packed into a short timeframe. Sky Tavern involves a bit more effort on every parent's part than most kid's programs. Why it is worth it. The only way to stay up to date is the emails. Please read them. I will try to not have them boring!

The skiing community lost one of the great pioneers and storytellers. He certainly made a life well-lived.
