Announcements - Sky Tavern

Since 1948 the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program has been teaching area kids to love snowsports and have loads of fun in the mountains at as low a rate as possible. From inexpensive ski and snowboard rentals to bus transportation, Sky Tavern tries to remove every obstacle from learning skiing. It does is well enough to win the 2021 National Ski Areas Association award for doing the most in the country to create new skiers.

Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program is staffed by parents and grandparents helping out for a few hours each day. You are the key to keeping it affordable and the force behind making it happen.

SkyKids Ages 4-5

SkyKids is our program for the youngest adventurers. These children must be accompanied by parents, and at least one parent of participating children must register as a SkyKid parent. It works.

By the end of the season, SkyKids are skiing from the top. Did we mention that Reno's only skiing Olympic Gold Medal winner, David Wise, got his start as a SkyKid?

Jr Ski Program joining with parents or without by riding the buses. Age 6-high school seniors.

The foundation of Sky Tavern. Kids learn to ski here better than anywhere else. Classes from "I have never seen snow" to "ripping the entire mountain". This is what we do!

Programs for kids that have skiing and riding down.

Alpine race teams, freestyle teams, programs to learn to be an instructor or a ski patroller. There is plenty to keep upper-level kids engaged at Sky Tavern. We have even had a few that decided they wanted to run the kitchen. Sky Tavern is a training area for kids. We will make them great adults.

Adaptive Programs

One of the best sights is an empty wheelchair slopeside. Out there somewhere is a kid that is experiencing the same thrills and freedom as all the others. There has never been a kid that this group of highly trained and motivated instructors has not gotten on the snow.

Instructing

Without adults that give their time, talent and pass on their love of skiing, there is no Sky Tavern. Instructors are the best! Parents are taught how to instruct in classes leading up to the season. There is no just tossing you out with a class. You will be ready by opening day.

Somewhere along the way in your travels, someone taught you this sport matters. Pass that feeling along!

Adult Support Member

Anything that gets done at any other ski area by a staff member is done by a mom or dad here. If they are not up to instructing, then this is where they help. There are memberships for skiers or nonskiers at different rates. One of the bonuses is signing up as a skiing support member gets you lessons on how to keep up with the kids. Two hours a day helping out, then the day is yours. You are the staff!

Being a member of Sky Tavern is much more than just skiing or snowboarding. It is about the community doing something amazing for itself and raises the bar of why we live here. Friendships are made at Sky Tavern like no others and a lot of parents are still helping out long after the kids have grown and moved away.
