The scene a year ago.
Sky Tavern needs a couple of feet of that from last season.
That is what it looked like a year ago and what it was supposed to look like tomorrow. Obviously, it does not. Still closed. Still waiting. It is just the first part of February and it looks like things might get stirred up a little next week. A change would help. First the east coast got our snow and now the Midwest. Getting closer? I wish there was better news, but all we can do is wait. We have no alternative right now. If changes don't happen, the Board of Directors gets together in March and figures out what to do. Why every non-profit has a board, to figure it out. That is where Sky Tavern and all of us stand together currently.
The Sky Tavern Race Team at Kirkwood last weekend. Racing on 6" of snow and then a bush popped out in the middle of a turn. There were some timing issues, so no clue how we did. What a year.
With no snow it is a little lonely at Sky most days. The usual mid-week hike then ski down group is elsewhere. A Suburban pulled up the other day and a 30 something, straggly bearded, I haven't showered for a few days, Frenchman started taking pictures. We talked for a few minutes about what this place is and I found out he was living in a rental SUV, going from Freestyle event to event across the country and that he was a FIS Freestyle judge. He was finishing up one lap of the west with the X-Games then heading to the Olympics. I told him that David Wise learned to ski here. His reaction was "David Wise? The best half-pipe skier in the world? That David Wise?" Yes, that David Wise.

Marce Herz was the person we all credit with creating the Sky Tavern Junior Ski Program in 1948. The Nevada Youth Ski Education Foundation and Sky Tavern are on a mission to have one of the new Washoe County schools named after her.
