Where we stand right now
This picture was Monday morning after three inches fell overnight.

We are really in a pretty normal position and better off than lots of seasons. We have completed four days of instructor training, SkyKids and big kids Level Zero (so much cooler term than dryland training), and a bit of support member training. We have built two new lifts, one with snow on the ground, and even found new uniforms for the CSIs. We have new instructors and new Ski Patrol candidates but always need more. Come on and give it a go.

Still got a week to go in January and snow is on the way. Look at the chart below. Those are inches of snow. That's four feet at Sky Tavern. That will do nicely. Click the chart to read more from Bryan Allegretto, the guy in the know about snow.

Are we going to open this weekend? I don't know. We will need to manage and shape all the snow if it shows. It's a science, an art and a lot of work. I might be sending out a cry for shovelers. The groomer operators are ready, even our new ones. There is still a lot to do in the lodge such as get the rental gear out of it. The final word will be on Friday about the opening. The rule of thumb is you lose 10% accuracy for every day out. We are guessing right now.

Changes for the coming season. Right up front, SPREAD OUT!

The big one, your car is the lodge. Capacity in the lodge is 25% not including those on shift doing a job. Gear needs to be stored in your car and no parking at the tables. There have been those that homesteaded tables in the past. It can't happen now. Please don't force the issue because no one is going to be happy in the end. If Frank will boot up at his truck so can everyone else, please. Grab one of those free adventure towels from the lodge to stand on while in just socks.

Most doors will be one way in or out. Follow the signs, please. Adaptive and SkyKids rooms roles are changed. Patrol is limiting visitors and the kitchen is remote ordering. That part actually works better than the old days. You can always bring lunch.

Classes will organize using all the base area. The two new lifts will start up before 9 so kids can ride to where the classes start. Skiing levels 1 and 2 will be off of Webster, Skiing 3 and 4 off of Rocco. Snowboarders will be at the aspen grove. SkyKids meet in the parking lot by the front door. One of the victims of this year is standing shoulder to shoulder to raise the flag and play the Star-Spangled Banner. Maybe we can figure out something as the season goes on.

Support Member Sign-up

Instructors got more time than usual for pre-season. We will keep that going with clinics all season. The rest of the adults need stuff to do. The sign-up sheet is here. It is changed from before. We need lots of cleaners, please.

Returners know what to do. Sign up and get on with it. Remember to help the new people. This is not a locked-in stone type of deal. Kitchen people tend to have it figured out who they are but always room. Donna ends up cleaning by herself at the end of the day. Come help, please. If we need people to run the lifts at noon, someone is doing it. It is easy to hide from responsibility but why would you. This is for kids. Sign up by clicking the links below.
