The schedule for the week goes like this.
Wednesday morning we get the keys to the old Sports Authority/ Halloween store at some time in the morning. We start the cleanup and set up. Lots of stuff has to come down from Sky Tavern and we need to haul 75 tables from the convention center at 2 PM. Got a truck?
Thursday starting at noon, individual sellers can start bringing in gear to sell. Sky Tavern becomes a consignment store for winter goods. This is where the term ski swap comes from. You don't swap stuff. You put it in the sale and hope it sells while you are buying. We have a tag system to track it all. It works. There will be some really interesting things that find their way on to the floor. Trying to focus on winter gear and clothing but there are exceptions. FYI, Sky Tavern retains 18% of the sales prices as our fundraiser.
Friday, 8 AM. Vendors start showing up. These are the pros that bring new and used gear in trailers and semis. They bring everything from skis and boards to clothing and accessories. Even if you rent skis you still need gloves, right? First thing in the morning. This is when the lift and tote happens. Sky Tavern has the best reputation with these guys because we help. We help them set up, we help them sell, we help them load up afterward because then they help us. They say we are the best volunteers. They save the good stuff for Reno and they donate over and above the 18% we make out of every sale.
Friday all day. More individual sellers appear. More very cool and some just bizarre things move to the floor. Bizarre sells well. How I got hooked on mono-skiing.
Friday 5pm. Sales start and go until 9 PM. We will be limited capacity and all other 2020 requirements will be in place.
Saturday 9am. We do it again until 3. At that time we load up and the gang leaves town hopefully with trucks emptier and wallets fatter.
Sunday 10-2 is clean-up and giving individuals back anything that did not sell.
Please come help, come sell, come buy. Tell your friends. This is how Sky Tavern works. We start loading a bus at Sky Tavern Tuesday afternoon. Stop by here or at the swap building to help. This takes many hands.
What else we have been working on lately and why I have been not writing more.
Rocco 2020 is finished!
The second carpet lift, Webster, is still being shipped. Of course, it will show up in the middle of the Ski Swap!
Maybe in two weeks, we can start having some goof off days on these lifts. I want to see what will go wrong before there are 1000 kids waiting in line. Yes, we need snow but not until Webster is built, please!
